the collection designed by Cazzaniga Mandelli Pagliarulo is competing for the XXX Compasso d’Oro ADI
The ADI Design Index 2026 selected 340 products, as part of the annual process carried out by ADI’s
Permanent Design Observatory to highlight the best of Italian industrial design. This selection represents the first volume in the biennial cycle leading up to the 2028 Compasso d’Oro, the most prestigious international award in industrial design, highlighting the vitality of innovation that drives Italian design, both in ideas and in tangible solutions.
Griante, designed by Cazzaniga Mandelli Pagliarulo for Pedrali, is among the products selected for the ADI Design Index. Griante reinterprets the concept of woven seating through a design that combines traditional craftsmanship and industrial production. The collection includes two different versions: one designed for indoor and one for outdoor spaces. The latter is the company’s first wooden chair specifically created for outdoor use, drawing from the origins and know-how of the Manzano (Udine) factory, which in 2025 celebrated twenty years since its foundation. Both options include a chair, an armchair, and a lounge version.
The frame of the outdoor version is made of teak, a refined variety of wood characterised by warm tones that is weather-resistant, while the indoor version is made of ash wood; both materials are FSC® C114358 certified. The main feature of Griante is the handwoven seat and backrest made in Italy, with a fully recyclable polypropylene yarn belt with a soft, three-dimensional texture, ensuring comfort and weather resistance.
The products featured in the ADI Design Index 2026 are on display at the ADI Design Museum in Milan from
1 to 15 October. The exhibition will then move to L’Aquila, where it will be hosted at the Palazzo ex OMNI
from 30 October to 17 November, as part of the events for L’Aquila 2026 – Italian Capital of Culture.
